There's a particular kind of magic in morning radio, and it's almost impossible to fake. Either two people click at 6am — genuinely, on air, before the coffee has kicked in — or they don't. For five years now, Tori and Phat Matt have clicked. We wanted to know how.

When Mix Mornings launched in 2021, nobody was sure a brand-new pairing would land. Half a decade and thousands of alarm clocks later, they're the sound Windsor-Essex wakes up to. We stole twenty minutes between the show and a school visit to find out what keeps it fresh.
Five years in — what still surprises you about doing mornings?

Tori: How much the town shows up for each other. We'll mention someone's having a rough week and the request line lights up with people wanting to help. That never gets old.
Phat Matt: For me it's that Tori still laughs at my bad jokes. Contractually she has to, but she means it. Probably.
 
You two have a specific chemistry. Is any of it planned?
Phat Matt: Zero. The second we script something it dies on air. The best bits are always the ones where one of us has no idea what the other is about to say.
